The Three Crowns is blessed with glorious surroundings, being set within the Dartmoor National Park, so walking is a great option! However there are various of other attractions – here’s a few suggestions whilst you enjoy your stay at The Three Crowns.

1. Hikes around Chagford (from the front door)

Chagford nestles between Meldon, Week Down and is close to various other hills and tors. It is also close to the River Teign and there are many beautiful stretches of river that offer easy walking options, while some of the moorland walks require a bit more effort, fitness and good footwear! To help you make the most of your visit and explore this beautiful area, we have also produced our own leaflet featuring a range of circular walks of varying length and difficulty, starting right from the front door! If you have exhausted all those, here are a few more walking options to explore from Chagford.

2. Chagford Swimming Pool (0.7miles – 3 min drive)

This open air swimming pool is a fantastic local attraction for all ages, Chagford pool is seasonal, usually opening from May Bank Holiday, so check the website before you head there. Its less than a mile away, (15 min walk) – what a fantastic way to build up an appetite for you next delcious meal at the Three Crowns. :)!

3. Castle Drogo (3.4 miles – 12 mins drive)

Castle Drogo, Devon

The last castle to be built in England, Castle Drogo a National Trust gem. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for self-made millionaire Julius Drewe and built 100 years ago – a beautiful building, wilth attractive trails along the river, plus an onsite café. If you are travelling with your dog, that’s not a problem, you hound can enjoy the grounds and Teign Gorge, however certain indoor areas are dog-free – read here…

4. Stone Lane Gardens (2.2 miles – 8 mins drive)

An enchanting 5-acre woodland gardens on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, Stone Lane Gardens is famous for a National Collection of Birch and Alder trees, promoting the conservation of such areas, aiming to raise awareness of the environmental benefits of planting trees. In addition an annual sculpture exhibition is curated here, attracting a range of imaginative pieces from South West Sculptors. Throughout the year there are some great events to look out for; outdoor theatre performances, craft workshops, Devon Open Studios – follow them on instagram to keep up to date!

5. Finch Foundry (7.1 miles – 16 mins drive)

If History holds your interest then a visit to Finch Foundry will definitely tick the box. A guided tour of the last working water-powered forge in England, run by various members of the Finch family in the 19th century. Experience the sights sounds and smells and here stories of what life was like for the people who worked there.. The Tarka Trail runs nearby to Sticklepath, so you could organise a countryside walk before your visit.
